Scripture and Tradition
   This term refers to the fact that the Revelation given by Jesus Christ to his Apostles has been transmitted in two forms: (1) the oral Tradition that began with the Apostles and has continued through the centuries under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and (2) the written account of this Revelation that has been recorded in the Bible. Scripture and Tradition are mutually related: Tradition gave birth to the Scriptures and is always necessary in order to interpret the Scriptures; the Scriptures, in turn, are the text that definitively expresses the Apostolic Tradition.
